1948年,王伟的太姥爷张万芝和两个合伙人一起创办了万兴居。主营包子以及周边副食,号称“八大居”之一。店里常常有戏曲名家光顾,这其中就包括:梅兰芳、侯宝林、魏喜奎、李少春等。

1956年,工商业掀起“公私合营”热潮,万兴居加入公私合营的队列。1976年万兴居改名为庆丰包子铺,庆丰包子由此产生。庆丰包子的第二代传人、王伟的姥爷张玉良、张德才之后也在庆丰包子、丰泽园等餐厅工作。

之后,王伟及其父母这两代,也一直在餐饮行业. 从澳大利亚中央昆士兰大学毕业之后没多久就回北京,开始了自己的餐饮生涯。
